Dr. Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary
The Dr. Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary is spread over an area of 1.78 sq. meters and located at the western tip of Chorao Island along the river Mandovi. It is fully covered with mangrove species. The whole area has mangrove vegetation. The sanctuary has colourful resident and migratory birds, and it is a habitat for plankton, shrimp, prawns, and small fish. Varieties of local as well as migratory birds frequently visit the area. This sanctuary can be visited anytime during the year with the permission of the Chief Wildlife Officer. The sanctuary is accessible by foot after crossing over by ferry from Ribandar to Chorao. They have a boat that takes groups around the sanctuary upon payment of fees. There are some private parties who take tourists around the island.
