Homemade coconut oil
Coconut oil is made by the traditional method of drying coconuts.
1. Break open the coconuts into two equal halves.
2. Water is drained out by placing them open-side down.
3. The coconuts are sun-dried for 7 days. Once the hard outer shell comes loose, the Khobre can be removed with a knife.
4. The Khobre is then cut into pieces of 1 inch with a thickness of about 1/2 inch. Let it dry for 7 days. Khobre without fungus will give a clean, off-white colour to the oil.
6. The Khobre, once ready, is taken to an oil extraction unit.
7. The newly extracted oil will look dirty and mucky. Let it settle for a day or two, and you will have sparkling clean oil.
8. Transfer the clean oil into a storage container. The bottom residue for lamps or massaging on the head and body.
9. This traditional process is laborious, time-consuming, hard work, and requires patience. However, it’s worth the effort if you care for your health and sustainable living.
